This is just a friendly reminder to all KOSC families that today is the last day to cancel for the October 19th Pro-D Day without charge. If you are not sure whether you have signed your child up for the Pro-D Day, please feel free to contact me to check in order to avoid any confusion. 🙂
Also, if you are wondering what awesome activities your child will be doing in After School Care, please check out the activity calendar for October!October 2018 ASC Calendar (The original Lions Hall Activity Calendar seems to have gone missing — we are searching for it today and will upload an updated calendar that includes the Lions Hall activities!)
In the interests of playing it safe with the air quality warnings, we have made alternate plans for KOSC Summer Camp for tomorrow, August 22nd. Instead of going to Esquimalt Water Park as planned, we will be heading to Langford Lanes for bowling. We will be leaving KOSC around 10:45 and returning by 3:00.
Thursday is a site day, so there should not be any change of plans necessary. Hopefully by the time Friday rolls around, the air quality will be a little better and we will be able to proceed with our planned excursion to Gyro Beach.
Our awesome Youth Coordinator will be in touch with YAP families in regards to alternate plans for the older group. (The originally scheduled adventure was a bike trip, and even if the air quality does improve significantly by tomorrow, it will still probably be best to avoid outside exertion of that level.)
In light of the continuing poor air quality advisory, KOSC and YAP have cancelled the planned field trips for today. Both groups will instead be heading to Star Cinema for a movie. We should be back on site between 12:45 and 1:00.
We will be keeping an eye on the air quality alerts to see if there is any improvement, but given current expectations, it is possible that we will be making alternative arrangements for tomorrow, as well. I will endeavour to provide an update by the end of the day.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
This is just a friendly head’s up that we will begin taking requests for drop-in care for Before and After School Care for the months of September through December 2018 on Monday, August 20th, at 7:00am. Please note that any requests received before this time will not be accepted.
Please submit your care requests in writing (email is fine). Drop-in care is available as space allows and are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If a space is not immediately available for your child, you will be placed on the drop-in waitlist for that day. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with KOSC to see if a space is available on any days that their child has been waitlisted for.
Pro-D Day registration is done separately from drop-in registration. If you need Pro-D Day care, you may submit your requests starting on the first day of school (September 4th) at 7:00am.
If you have any questions about drop-in registration, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Have a great day!
Keating Out-of-School Care is looking to add some new leaders to our awesome team in September 2018. Full-time, part-time, and casual/on-call positions are available, and the flexibility of scheduling makes it a great option for university students. If you know of anyone who loves working with kids and is looking for a job, please feel free to pass this information along to them. 🙂
Hello KOSC Families,
We have an update on the development of 65 new spaces for Keating Out of School Care’s program, using the funds we have been awarded through the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s Major Capital Funding Grant.
The School District has been extraordinarily helpful in this project, offering and provisioning space in the lower parking lot to install the four new modular units KOSC is purchasing to expand its program. We were hoping the new buildings could be delivered in time for the 2018-2019 school year, but the recent court ruling on class size limitations has had schools across the province ordering similar structures all at the same time, and the backlog of several thousand portable orders means that delivery for KOSC’s purchase will not be possible until 2019. While we would have liked to have had them delivered immediately and in place for this September, the limited capacity of the manufacturer to build portables to meet the demand has imposed this unavoidable delay on our project schedule.
We should be receiving the new portables in the spring of 2019, getting it equipped and ready over the that summer, with the newly expanded program in effect for the 2019-2020 school year.
Thank you for all the expressions of support from the KOSC community, and we will share news as it develops over the coming year.
