New Family Registration for Fall 2012-13

Hello to all new families of the KOSC Program!

As registration for fall begins at 7:00am on Monday, April 2nd, I thought I would just remind everyone of our current registration procedures.

For those families who have picked up a registration package from KOSC, please ensure that you have completely filled out the registration package – including your child’s immunization records, Personal Health Number, emergency contacts, possible health plan, read and understood all of the following: Parent Agreement 2012-13, Registration Information 2012-13, and Parent Handbook 2012-13, and signed and dated all sections of the permissions page. You will also need to have completely filled out and signed the back of the Emergency Permission Card, and include a photo of your child which will then be attached to the back of this card for those times we travel off-site.

For those who have picked up a registration package at Ready, Set, Learn: please familiarize yourself with our latest documentation on our “Forms” page before dropping of your package, as there have been a few changes, most notably that post-dated cheques are now required for the full year.

For those who have printed off their packages on-line – we have extra Emergency Permission Cards here on hand for you to fill out when you drop-off your package. You will not lose your place in line as these cards are not available for print off our site, but please ensure that they are fully filled out before you leave :) .

Also, please be aware that we have altered our fees payment policy this year: KOSC now requires post-dated cheques for regularly registered fees for September 2012 through to June 2013, as well as the membership registration fee (an initial $35 per family, and then $5/family for each subsequent year). Please ensure that these cheques read “Keating Out Of School Care” and not “KOSC” as our financial institution will not accept them. Regularly registered fees are those days you have registered for care on a regular basis – it does not include possible drop-in days, or Pro-D days, or Break Camp days, as these must be asked for separately, and are billed at the end of the month, for the month proceeding it (ie: September drop-in fees and Pro-D fees are billed at the start of October). For those families in need of care for Pro-D days throughout the school year, registration for these days begins the first day of school in September, and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Regular registration on a day that falls on a Pro-D day does not automatically register your child.

We currently have an average of 20 full-time AM spaces, and 14 full-time PM spaces (as of 10:15am, Friday, March 30th.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns!

Sincerely,

Jamie Crowder

Emergency Closure March 12, 2012

Hello KOSC Families,

Today at approximately 7:45 am, KOSC lost power. BC Hydro’s approximated time for re-instating power is not until 4:00pm. As such, KOSC will be unable to safely provide care, and has closed for the remainder of the day.  As such, After-School care services will be unavailable for today.  All children who were dropped off at KOSC this morning have been taken up to the school where teachers and school administration will be offering supervision until a parent or emergency contact can be reached.

If there are any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on the KOSC cel phone – 250-415-2035, or contact the school directly.

We thank you for your understanding,

Jamie

Teacher Strike, March 5, 6, 7 2012

Hello KOSC Families,

As you’re probably already aware of, the official announcement of the Teacher strike for March 5th, 6th, and 7th went out this morning. As previously mentioned, Monday, March 5th was already slated as a non-instructional day for Saanich schools. As such, KOSC will be honouring the registrations already made for that day, and will operate as a normal Pro-D day.

As for the 6th and 7th, there have been a number of families who were given automatic spaces due to their full or near full regular registration who have called in and generously offered up their spaces to others who need care. I would advise those families who didn’t originally get a space to call or email in as soon as possible in order to register for possible spaces left available. Spaces will be first come-first serve per “fees block” (i.e. all registrations at $123/child/month is one block, all registrations at $89/child/month is another block).

If no space is requested, or those with a space have not contacted KOSC to claim it by closing (6:00pm) on Friday, March 2nd, we will then provide those unclaimed spaces to those next in line per fees block in the order in which they have requested care. Families who are on this waitlist will receive an email on Friday, March 2nd after 6:00pm in order to ease minds over the weekend.

There have also been numerous questions regarding picket lines. As the Labour Board noted in their decision, they cannot legally put up picket lines to prevent others from using the school grounds. However, I have asked all KOSC staff to use the Lower Parking Lot to park their vehicles during the strike. Families not comfortable with entering the school grounds through the main entrance are recommended to use this route in dropping/picking up their children at KOSC.

Again, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time, and I am available to answer any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jamie Crowder

January 19, 2012

Hello all,

KOSC is open today for both before school and after school care, as classes are in session.

We do ask that parents with children in After School Care pick up their children as early as possible today, so staff can make it home safely before the roads ice over too much.

Have a great day and drive safe out there!
